Providence Health Care is proud to have been selected as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2025.
Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is an editorial competition that recognizes the employers across Canada that lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers.
“At PHC, we are proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People, an honour that reflects our commitment to offering a dynamic and supportive environment for the next generation of talent,” says Becky Palmer, Chief & VP, People, Nursing and Health Professions Officer. “We continually invest in innovative programs that not only enhance career development but also support the growth of essential skills for young professionals, ensuring they are equipped to succeed in their roles and beyond.
A press release by Mediacorp Canada Inc. says that many of this year’s winners have created special rotational programs that offer recent graduates the opportunity to work in several areas of the organization before deciding on a role or department that best suits their skills. Another distinction that sets this year’s winners apart is how keenly they recognize the many ways in which younger employees have been shortchanged by the pandemic. To compensate, employers have prioritized soft skills training, allowing young people to improve skills relating to interpersonal communication, public speaking, and other social aspects that are vital to success in any workplace.

Some of the reasons why Providence Health Care was selected as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People (2025) were:
- Providence Health Care offers an employed student nurse program for registered nurse and registered practical nurse students – the program allows students to consolidate the knowledge and skills they learned in school while gaining increased exposure to the clinical setting – additionally, a dedicated educator provides orientation and mentorship throughout the duration of the program.
- Providence Health Care fosters development with the Practice-Based Research Challenge, an annual competition open to all point-of-care clinical staff, where teams collaborate to create a research proposal to answer clinical or care-related questions – participants receive training support and mentorship, and winning teams receive $5,000 each to carry out their research.
- Providence Health Care offers a unique in-house training program to support registered nurses in obtaining their perioperative nursing specialization – the 24-week program combines online learning, classroom sessions and clinical rotations with coverage of various surgical specialities, and leads to a full-time position in the operating room upon program completion.
