Providence Health Care has once again been recognized as a BC Top Employer (2025), marking the 11th time the health-care organization has made the list.
The designation comes on the heels of the organization’s recognition as one of BC’s Top Employers for Young People in January.
BC’s Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. The special designation highlights British Columbia organizations that are leading their industries in creating exceptional workplaces for their teams.
Work-life balance, wellness programs and research challenge cited
Organizers highlighted Providence’s progressive time-off policies and work-life balance, its mental-health and wellness programs, and its unique annual research challenge as reasons for being part of the list.
Employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition: (1) Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.
Creating a workplace where every employee feels valued
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication, passion, and hard work of every single member of our team,” says Becky Palmer, Providence’s Vice-President, People, Nursing and Health Professions Officer. “At Providence Health Care, we are deeply thankful for the opportunity to create a workplace where every employee feels valued, supported, and empowered to grow. This award reflects our ongoing efforts to prioritize the well-being of our incredible staff. Together, we continue to build a united, inclusive environment that will remain a top destination for those seeking a fulfilling career.”

With Canada’s strongest economic growth, its highest provincial credit rating and one of the fastest-growing low-carbon economies in North America, British Columbia is already a leader when it comes charting a course for the rest of the country. Employers in British Columbia are taking the lead in combining innovation with sustainability to create exceptional workplaces that respond to what their employees value most. The best of these initiatives were represented in this years BC’s Top Employers (2025).
“British Columbia has always been one of the most progressive regions in the country in terms of benefits, flexibility and forward-thinking environmental policies — and this year’s winners are no exception,” says Richard Yerema, executive editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “The province is home to many fearless, progressive organizations that are not afraid to push the boundaries and stand out from the crowd in a way that attracts new employees from across BC and throughout Canada.”
Here are some of the reasons why Providence Health Care was selected as one of BC’s Top Employers (2025):
- Providence Health Care organizes a unique practice-based research challenge, an annual competition that engages clinical staff in drafting research proposals to answer clinical or care related questions — successful teams receive funding to complete their research ($5,000), with some proposals leading to practice changes and improvements in patient care;
- Providence Health Care maintains progressive time-off policies to promote work-life balance, offering four weeks of starting vacation allowance, up to five paid personal days for most employees, and 18 paid sick days annually; and
- Providence Health Care provides a range of resources and internal programs to support positive mental health, including self-care strategies, an annual health and wellness fair, activities during Mental Health Week, and an internal mental health and wellness toolkit.
The award organizers also cited Providence’s flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements, an 85-per-cent salary top-up for female staff on maternity leave, and in-house training programs.
“This recognition is not only a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our entire team at Providence Health Care,” says Palmer, “but also a reminder of the importance of prioritizing employee well-being and nurturing a culture of inclusivity and compassionate care.”
