Vancouverites participate in an international earthquake exercise called the Great ShakeOut (New SPH)

Nearly a million people in BC took part in an international earthquake exercise, the Great ShakeOut this morning, along with 65 million people worldwide.

The proposed new St Paul’s Hospital has been tagged as one new building that will have to undergo rigorous conditions. A city resilience committee will have to be satisfied before the application to rezone passes.

Miriam Strewart, Chief Clinical Planning Officer of the new St. Paul’s Redevelopment project assures that “the seismic engineers and planners that we’ve been working with have reassured us, and because of the strong building codes for hospitals, this will be withstanding any earthquake that we would have probably in Vancouver.”
