Surrey’s population now exceeds 500,000, with about 1,000 people moving to the city each month.

Yet B.C.’s second-largest municipality only has one acute-care hospital.

In response to this situation, Premier John Horgan and Health Minister Adrian Dix plan to host a news conference to provide “an update on planning for a new hospital in Surrey”.

In the meantime, the new St. Paul’s Hospital on Vancouver’s False Creek Flats is expected to cost $1.9 billion.
