Treatment as Prevention pioneer
Acknowledged for his role in pioneering highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and his concept of Treatment as Prevention® – both of which have dramatically changed the face of HIV/AIDS and led to adoption globally to end the AIDS epidemic – Dr. Montaner’s leadership and commitment to health equity were highlighted in the citation for the Senior Career recipient. Dr. Montaner is currently expanding his efforts to adapt Treatment as Prevention® to optimize and accelerate the control of other impactful contagious diseases (including infectious diseases [i.e.: HCV], as well as socially contagious diseases [i.e.: type II Diabetes, COPD, opioid use]), with the ultimate goal to enhance Health Care Sustainability.
